Et tu, Cleopatra?

As many of you know, our dog Caesar has become a huge part of our lives over the past year. But with both Jen and I working full-time, it was tough for him to be alone all day, and he would usually bounce off the walls with energy whenever we got home.

Our original plan was to get another dog to keep him company during the day. I wanted a male dog so that we could name him Brutus, with the understanding that he would be Caesar’s nemesis. But when our extensive search was over, we ended up with Cleopatra, a four-year old dachshund that we got from a rescue shelter. Cleo spent the majority of her life in a puppy mill, so we were very happy to give her a loving home. For his part, Caesar has calmed down considerably and behaved himself admirably, despite an affinity for stealing treats from Cleo’s mouth as she tries to eat them (she’s missing a tooth, so it takes longer).

We threw Cleo right into the mix, and she seems to be thriving. We recently took the dogs out for a 5k Dog Walk sponsored by the Montour Trail. The weather was great, the people were friendly and the dogs were relatively well-behaved.

I was never really much of a dog person until we got Caesar last year, and now I can’t imagine coming home and not being attacked by my dogs, who want nothing more than a little love and affection.
